Logged in and all my stuff was gone. Feels kinda shitty to lose 400k gold. Makes me not want to play anymore.
How can a AAA game studio with 15 years of online game making experience and millions of dollars at their disposal make such an easily hackable game?
I would sell my account to anyone who may want it. Its shitty atm (level 40 WD) but I just don't see the point. Would rather recoup the loss and put the money towards GW2.

If you contact Blizzard you can ask for a refund, they will deactivate your key but refund you in full. This is what I've been told

Same happened to me. They set my Chars back to one of their "Savepoints", where i still had all my stuff. Just lost 1 Level and some Items, but got my gold+equipment back. Dunno how i could get hacked, cause i didn´t have a trojan/virus/whatever and nobody had my PW...

If you play this game and use the auction house or play in public games, get the battle net authenticator. It's free for the mobile version but you have to pay if you need a physical PIN generator.
Basic issue has nothing to do with trojans or keyloggers or poor password choices. Blizzard is just piss poor at account security and the Chinese farmers are able to spoof your session ID and log in as your character and wipe them clean. Playing with Axiom and he was hacked not even a week after release and needed a roll back, losing 2 levels and some items. They will only roll your account back twice and will prevent you from using RMT auction house when it's available unless you pay them more money.
Blizzard will also take the time to make sure you are aware that this is all your fault while promoting paying for things you shouldn't need to secure your account. Pretty fucking stupid.

I had my account hacked.
Recently moving so I lost my internet, not a big deal. Just contacted them and changed my password - applied the authenticator (apparently I had the wrong one). And they rolled back my account. I have yet to log, but I am pretty sure I have all my items back.. which is basically all I want.. gold I don't care I had about ~400k which I can easily farm in a day or less.
Get the authenticator. Don't quit.

blizz is usually pretty good with security and recovering your shit, from everything i have and pretty much everyone else i've known has experienced from WoW. they should get your shit back really quick if you cooperate and provide them the necessary info. there is just a overwhelming amount of idiots who get hacked because they are oblivious to phishing/keyloggers/etc, which is why they give the whole account security lecture spiel when restoring accounts.
someone def shit the bed with this public game / ah security flaw though. pretty shitty if they'll only restore your account twice though, seeing how in this case its 100% blizzards fault.
def get an authenticator though. it should be standard really. if you don't have a smartphone (lol) and don't want to pay for the $6 thing, theres things like authenticator.me that function as a free online authenticator. i don't actually know any of the other ones, thats the only one i've used and its been pretty legit.

Step 1: Balance game around AH Step 2: Neglect account security Step 3: Make the game impossible to play without using AH Step 4: Playerbase gets bored because there's no positive re-enforcement in the grind and you're at constant risk of being hacked I recently got a green that I sold for 14 mil (11 mil after taxes (lol?)), and it's left me really questioning how the fuck they went so wrong with this game. I feel like I spend as much time pretending to be an economist as I do a gamer. Nearly through Act 2 Inferno, and it's not a rewarding feeling I haven't become more skillful (the skill ceiling in this game is pathetically low), just better equipped.

The only thing I get from Diablo 3 is the urge to play Diablo 2.
The game is so average. It has been a giant let down, and though I shouldn't be, I'm surprised. I'm currently going through Inferno and I'm in act 2 going to act 3. The game is hard in the most shallow way possible. It is not hard from a a technical standpoint where I need to adjust my play, kite well, learn the game, etc. It is hard just because things do a fuck load of damage, so you farm what you can, save gold, and buy awesome gear.
The quests are shallow and incoherent, the dialogue is horrible, and the end game skill options are horrid. I'd rather have to re-roll and pay to respec attributes with multiple viable builds than to be locked into a couple builds without having to respec. (D2 vs D3) The quests are mundane and boring. After 20 minutes if dialogue I was completely disenchanted and would rather skip through the shit dialogue than give them the benefit of the doubt. The lore you pick up almost always has no implications about the current story plot. The lore should have filled in the story for those interested in the story, but instead it turned out to be quirky incoherent ramblings.
In Diablo 2 you were given somewhat unique rewards for quests. At least with Diablo 2 I understood what I was doing without having to focus on it. All the quests had rewards to them throughout the game. Act 2 in Diablo 2 was deeper than the whole of Diablo 3.
Act 1 quest 1 gave you +1 Skill Point, 1 Free Respecialization; quest 2 gave you companion, and quest 5 (I think) allowed you to imbue items.
Act 2: Quest 1 gave you a skill point and 10% price reduction. Then you worked your way to get the cube.
Act 3: Quest 1 gave you +20 health permanently and quest 4 gave you +4 stat points.
Act 4: Quest 1: Stat points. Quest 2: Gems and runes.
Act 5: Quest 1: Add sockets.
There were more sub-quests in act five like the resistance scroll in quest 3 and personalizing your items. All these little rewards seemed to guide you through the game and help you focus on the quests at hand. You understood what you were doing and you understood the game better.
They clearly set the game up to push you into the auction house, and I suppose that could] have been fine, but it obvious most of the time was dedicated to the auction house and legal implications. The thing that makes this even more disappointing is that the introduction of RMAH will inflate gold tremendously, which will put you in two positions.
1: Farm and absolute shit ton of gold.
2: Spend real money
The game would be much better with multiple currencies (kinda like D2: Item for item, Pgems for runes, etc etc) Instead we are going to be forced to dedicate absurd hours or spend real money. With the way Blizzard has handled account security issues recently I'm not comfortable purchasing items through the RAMH. This game is shallow and frankly uninteresting. This game is about finding gear to make the game easy. That is NOT good game design.
Tl;dr: Fuck you, Bizzard. You ruined my favorite game series of all time. Diablo 1 and 2 were awesome. Diablo 3 sucks giant cocks.

The only reason to play D3 really is if you like the end game gear grind. Pretty sad really. I remember when I thought I would play it for months which would be a lot less than D2 but it ended up like 3 weeks instead.
No PvP. No ladders. Just leveling and gear grind. Not even sure why people grind it over any other mmo.

The entire game is built around battle.net: DRM, auction house(s), multiplayer, and the "social" features; and it turns out that battle.net is totally insecure when it even works. It's pretty stunning, actually, that Blizzard has the balls to sell those authenticator suppositories in the first place.
