Whats fun about having someone devoted to running flags? In theory it sounds boring as shit as did running flags but obv if its such a deciding factor then youll get ganked etc and then a lot of scenarios arise from play around the trebuchet that allows for the actual interesting play, similar to pushing flaggers etc

Phelann is right, and your comparison is off. The Runner has to come to the flag stand, the Treb camper just has to sit and spam. It's a much less mobile job, if staying on Treb is effective.

Sure gameplay will develop around it despite that, but you have to admit it's much more static of a role then running flags.

Perhaps they should have made it a bomb runner instead, or allow you to throw a marker up anywhere to call a catapult shot (with marks spawning near base like flags).

My comparison is not wrong, its different, ofc you cant compare them directly but to put such a statement such as "someone camps the treb" will ofc make it boring just like the statement "someone must run flags". Play will occur when ppl run across the map to kill ur treb player, whether one of ur other players can intercept em, or 2v1 ganks occur at the treb, what happens if theres a 1v1 scrim at each treb with the 3 other players on each team running around. Anything will sound boring if u want it to sound boring was my comparison, not a gameplay comparison.

It seems more active then a flag runner to me. You may have people come attack you that you have to deal with, and you actually fight them not heal an npc, or you may have to venture out for a repair kit if they manage to destroy your tebuchet. Not to mention that being on the trebuchet 24/7 probably isn't a good strategy unless you have ridiculous aim with it.

They also said there were going to be other map objectives besides trebuchets, or maybe objectives isn't the right word for it.

It's not like you're just clicking the launch button repeatedly anyway. You actually have to aim it and figure out X strength= Y distance, learn what not to blow up, what time to blow up certain destructible areas, pay attention to enemy players coming for you, repairing it, etc.. It's static but it's not a bot job.

I think the underlying problem is the fact that there isn't friendly fire with trebs. I liked the idea of the catapults (which did have FF) in gw1 because it added another factor into the mix.

I've only been able to catch bits of the coverage. Do you really HAVE to have someone dedicated to treb 24/7? Would this mean a certain bar type is needed, or would it be something where anyone on a team at a given time could be asked to cover treb.

Also, if it is a necessity, then won't teams realize this and send at least someone fight to control it. Which means the job of covering treb will not equate to standing there firing shots.

your forgetting running back for repair kits to repair a treb that has been successfully brought down by opponents, and the pressure you will receive while running it, forcing u to drop it and fight might be kind of cool, or ignoring the enemy and pushing for a repair in order to fight after so he can not pick it up off the ground. That's if enemy pick up brings it back to spawn point...

I feel like GW1 players, Phelann and others, who think they are old-school for some reason, are running out of things to bitch about. So far everything you all have complained about has proven to be much less a factor than you realize. Now we see more map objectives other than the capture points, and you must bitch about that.

"Trebuchet could add more interesting mechanics to the game while at the same time bringing back a somewhat familiar GW 1 mechanic. O WAIT THIS ISNT GW 1 ITS GONNA SUCK!!!11!11!!"

So sad to see some well known members of the game trashing this one before they have any information/experience to bitch about, it really does make the community from the 1st game look like a bunch of stuck up snobs (i.e. HoN players)

I don't see why you wouldn't make a hard push for the other team's treb.

letting them devote someone to trebuchet is like letting the other team run flags in for free if we're going to keep using that comparison.

This.

Seems to me like sitting on the trebuchet the whole match will probably result in a win. It may not be amazingly fun but if they are letting you camp it, they are probably noobs, and is it really ever that fun to stomp noobs?

It looks more like WoW PvP than I thought it would.

If WoW weren't a gear based game, the PvP probably would be more fun.
