When I installed my SSD, I used the Windows Update version of Service Pack 1, and it fucked a bunch of stuff up and took forever to install; After rebooting, I kept getting an error about Group Policy Client failing to start and some other shit didn't work right. I then reinstalled Windows and used the downloadable version of SP1 instead and it worked fine. Make sure you get the right version: 32-bit win7 needs the x86 one, 64-bit takes the x64 version. You only need the one file, which is like 900mb or something.
@Misheka: SP1 is not new; I seem to recall it being out for months or longer. I don't think it adds anything new and is mostly just a collection of patches that preceded it.

Kind of related question i guess, don't want to create a new thread for it:
I can't connect to the internet wirelessly on my old computer, I just reinstalled windows 7 on it, and it sees the network, and I have the right password, but it just says "Windows was unable to connect to [Network Name]".
My new computer uses ethernet, but my macbook uses the wireless fine, on the same network with the same password so iunno what the fuck is wrong with my old computer...
i get real mad when seemingly easy things become absurdly difficult =[
